What mobile notaries charge

The state cap covers the notarization itself. A mobile notary who travels to you usually adds a travel or convenience fee. Some states let notaries set that fee themselves, while others set guidelines or mileage-based rates. Ask for the total price, including travel, before you book.

Loan signing fees

A loan signing agent handles a full mortgage or refinance package, which can run 100 pages or more. Their fee is usually paid by the title or escrow company and is often listed on your closing statement.

How to keep the cost down

  • Check if your bank or credit union notarizes free for account holders.
  • Combine all your documents into one appointment.
  • Bring every signer and witness so you only need one visit.
  • Compare a mobile notary's travel fee with a remote online session, where your state allows it.
